Sagawa Express is trying to show off their feminine side.

Sagawa Express is one of the biggest delivery services in Japan. Whenever you order something online, there’s a good chance that an unattractive Sagawa delivery man will be the one to ring your doorbell and drop off your goods.

Perhaps in an effort to fix that reputation of theirs, on December 10 Sagawa Express is releasing a photo book through publisher Shogakukan showing off 55 of their most beautiful female delivery workers.

▼ A picture of the cover. The title is “Sagawa Girls,” and the subtitle is “Photos of
too-beautiful women drivers in uniforms and everyday clothes.” (Click image to expand)

“The beautiful women who deliver smiles.”

▼ They, uh, look like a nice bunch of women to work with.
Are we… supposed get anything else out of this?

Which brings us to the main question: who is the audience for this book?

Are there really a bunch of people out there eager to own photo books of deliverywomen? I mean, there are otaku for pretty much everything, so I suppose it’s not too far-fetched.

On the other hand, is this just a PR move from Sagawa Express? If so, we have to admit they’ve kind of succeeded. If you need a conversation-starter book to put on your coffee table, or a hilarious joke present to give to a friend for the holidays, then you could do far worse.

▼ “Merry Christmas! It’s a book of 55 beautiful Sagawa drivers.”
“…why must you always do this to me?”

▼ There’s even a video showing off behind-the-scenes
footage that went into making the album.

Here’s how Japanese netizens reacted to this slightly-strange publication:

“Now all we need are photo books for the Kuroneko Women, Yu-Pack Women, Kangaroo Women, and Pelican Women. Then we’ll be all set!”

“I’ve never seen any deliverywomen as cute as these. I’ve only ever gotten guys before.”

“Do they just work on the business and office side of Sagawa? I’m not sure if I buy that they’re all deliverywomen.”

The cover of the book advertises: “The natural, attractive faces of 55 women working in our places of business all over the country.” With that loose definition, it could be possible that not all of them are actual deliverywomen, spending hours delivering packages outside all day, but they’re just as much a part of Sagawa Express as anyone else there.

And if anyone has a problem with that, then I’m sure these gals won’t mind showing off how even yakuza members think Sagawa employees are the toughest around!
