Ryo Saeba, aka City Hunter, is returning as a feature-length anime, and best of all, they’re keeping the same ending theme, “Get Wild”, from the old TV series!

The new City Hunter film, which will be the series’ first anime adaptation to come out in 20 years, now has an official title — City Hunter The Movie: Shinjuku Private Eyes, and an official trailer has been released on the movie’s website as well. But what may be the most exciting piece of news for City Hunter fans is that the film will have the same ending theme, “Get Wild”, as the old TV anime series.

▼ Here’s the trailer for the new movie. Naturally, the artwork seems to have a somewhat modern, updated look, but it ‘s still dazzling!

For those of you unfamiliar with the series, City Hunter chronicles the adventures (and often misadventures) of private investigator, trouble fixer and sniper extraordinaire for hire, Ryo Saeba. Professionally, there’s no one you can count on more to get the job done, but Ryo also happens to be a chronic woman-chaser, always trying to approach beautiful women, albeit without success, and providing the story with plenty of comic relief in the process. Both the manga, created by Tsukasa Hojo, and the TV anime were huge hits from the mid/late ’80s to the early ’90s, and even popular enough overseas to be getting a live-action adaptation in France. In particular, the ending theme of the TV series,”Get Wild”, performed by the popular Japanese band TM Network, came to be loved by fans as a song that is truly symbolic of both the anime and the late ’80s.

City Hunter‘s ending theme, “Get Wild”, thrilled both anime and music fans alike in the late ’80s

Another huge bonus for fans is that the original main cast from the TV series will be reprising their roles in the new movie, including: Akira Kamiya who will be playing the lead as Ryo; Kazue Ikura, who will be voicing his trusted partner Kaori; Ichiryūsai Harumi (formerly Asagami Yoko), who will play the sexy detective Saeko; and Tesshō Genda, who will voice Umibōzu, Ryo’s ex-special forces friend and nemesis. Considering it’s been 20 years since the last anime production, it truly is amazing they were able to get the original voice actors together, and we can’t help but feel excited about the movie!

City Hunter The Movie: Shinjuku Private Eyes will open in theaters across Japan on February 8, 2019.

One thing’s for sure; there’ll be some darn nostalgic souls in the audience after seeing the movie end to the familiar tunes of Get Wild. We can’t wait to be one of them!
