Limited-edition Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Amiibo collection to feature a whopping 63 figurines

https://ift.tt/2Rt11QR Koh Ruide

A perfect way to get maximum mileage out of Nintendo’s epic crossover fighting game.

Fighting game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be arriving soon in stores on December 7, allowing players to take control of a ton of new video game characters like Isabelle from Animal Crossing to blow the competition out of their Nintendo Switch screens.

Aside from enjoying one-on-one duels or massive chaotic brawls, players can also to train and develop their own AI-controlled character, using an Amiibo toy figurine to store the respective AI character’s data and progress in an embedded chip. As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate comes with a truckload of fighters, those hoping to collect all the Amiibo characters will have to hunt high and low in stores.

The good news is, online shopping website Amazon Japan will be offering a limited-edition bundle that comes with a crazy 63 Amiibo figurines, including new additions like Inkling from Splatoon and Piranha Plant from the Super Mario franchise.

▼ A smasher’s dream come true.

The exclusive bundle includes a hanging scroll depicting the classic Battlefield stage, as well as a special box to store all 63 Amiibo in. Only 50 sets will be made available online on Amazon Japan starting from December 7 at 6:00 p.m. (Japan Standard Time), so those hoping to get their hands on this treasure box of a collection will have to be quick when the time draws near.

Not all of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate characters are covered in the set, but 63 Amiibo does make up a huge chunk of the total 70 fighters available. Not only will they make an awesome display at home, each figurine potentially extends the game’s life by many more hours. There’s nothing like pitting characters that you have personally trained against each other in free-for-all battles.

▼ Get a display case and show off your collection.

There has been no word on the pricing yet, unfortunately, but the bundle’s web page here may be updated in the near future.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s predecessor may have surpassed a million copies sold two days after launch, but we think this latest entry, with its impressive list of characters, will far exceed everyone’s expectations.

Nissin commercial gets a thumbs up for parodying Sony’s classic PlayStation commercial【Video】

https://ift.tt/2AFZkIE Koh Ruide

“One, two, three! One, two, three! One, two, three!”

Instant noodle company Nissin is no stranger to making wild commercials that leave viewers demanding more.

The company’s new Mysterious Meat Bowl (the contents of which actually aren’t that mysterious) is set to be released on December 3, which coincidentally falls on the same day as when Sony first unleashed the original Playstation to the world 24 years ago.

In an unlikely collaboration between the giants of instant food and electronics industries, Nissin has aired a parody commercial that pays homage to the console that swept a generation off their feet.

▼ We need more collaborations like these.

▼ The classic Playstation logo was altered from “PS” to “ND”,
which stands for “NazonikuDon” (“Mysterious Meat Bowl”).

▼ That fervent chanting can be infectious.

▼ Shaking the package results in the pieces of mysterious meat rising to the top, and is
referred to as the “Brazil nut effect.” We’re not making this up, that’s what they say!

▼ The longer version of the video adds a few more scenes.

▼ Here is the original PlayStation ad, which also involved
three impatient office workers ritualistically slamming their tables with fists.

The good news is that December 3 will not only welcome Nissin’s Mysterious Meat Bowl, but also heralds the revival of Sony’s flagship console in the form of PlayStation Classic, a platform that emulates awesome vintage games like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, Grand Theft Auto and Parasite Eve.

▼ Sony has since remade their own commercial in high-definition quality.

Nissin’s parody video hit some nostalgic notes for Japanese netizens:

“I love these kinds of parodies. I’m glad Sony gave them the green light.”
“They must have had loads of fun making this video.”
“Whether you enjoy the video or not depends on the generation you were born in.”
“Nissin’s commercials are awesome.”
“What a fantastic collaboration.”

Nissin is not one to shy away from huge collaborations in their ads, the famous Final Fantasy XV cup noodle ad being yet another example.

The office worker’s rhythmic “One, two, three!” chanting and fevered fist slamming may continue to ring in our heads for some time, but only time will tell if it will sweep viewers into a new era like what Sony did with their flagship console.

Miss World Japan: The great-times-20-granddaughter of samurai lord One-Eyed Dragon

https://ift.tt/2U4k99l Casey Baseel

Direct descendant of Date Masamune becomes first Japanese entrant to win talent portion with her beautiful opera vocals.

Recently, Miss Universe Japan turned heads by cosplaying as Sailor Moon. It turns out, though, that fellow beauty pageant contestant Miss World Japan also has a connection to a famous icon of Japanese culture, and one who’s an actual historical figure.

Instagram Photo

Tokyo native Kanako Date has a name that might sound familiar to Japanese history buffs, because one of her ancestors is Date Masamune, lord of the Date samurai clan during Japan’s feudal Sengoku era. Nicknamed “One-Eyed Dragon” after losing an eye to smallpox as a child, Masamune ruled the area near present-day Sendai, in Miyagi Prefecture, until his death in 1636.

While they’re obviously many generations removed from each other, there’s not much lateral space between Kanako and her famous ancestor on the Date family tree. She’s a direct descendant of Masamune, and is in fact his great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-granddaughter, with the two of them spanning 21 generations.

Instagram Photo

Given her aristocratic samurai lineage, it’s not so surprising that Date looks regal dressed in traditional Japanese attire or armed with traditional Japanese weaponry. The 22-year-old lists Japanese dance, archery, and playing the koto (a stringed Japanese instrument) among her hobbies as well.

Instagram Photo

However, Date’s interests and ambitions go beyond the borders of her homeland. She speaks multiple languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, and Korean, and also has studied abroad in China. Currently a fourth-year law student at Japan’s prestigious Keio University, she hopes to work for an international organization in the future, and has also been involved in charity activities with the Red Cross and World Vision.

Her cultural interests have an international element to themselves as well, as Date is also an amazingly talented opera singer, as you can hear for yourself in the video below.

It’s not just her online followers who’re impressed with her vocals, either. During the talent portion of this year’s Miss World finals, currently taking place on Hainan Island in China, Date elected to sing the aria “Vissi d’arte” from Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca, and her performance wowed the judges so much that she was awarded first place in the talent portion, a feat no other Japanese contestant has achieved since the pageant’s first iteration in 1951.

Due to the multi-day nature of the pageant, an overall winner won’t be chosen from among the 118 contestants until December 8, but regardless of how that turns out, Date’s unprecedented talent portion win is something to be proud of.

Explosive preview of “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” straight up spoils the plot for everyone【Video】

https://ift.tt/2Q6eJwo Koh Ruide

Warning! Do not read (or watch) if you wish to avoid spoiling the story.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly promises to be an action-packed movie fans have been clamoring for, featuring protagonists Goku and Vegeta taking on a fearsome Broly, the movie’s titular legendary Saiyan.

Although the animated film’s premier experienced some logistical hiccups in Japan, fans out there are still stoked for its December 14 release. Nevertheless, people who have just started dipping their toes into the Dragon Ball series might be wondering what it would take to defeat one of the most powerful villains in the universe.

And if you’d like to remain un-spoiled yourself, then this is your last chance to turn back before we discuss the spoiler!

Okay, here we go!

▼ The foil to Broly was apparently laid out in plain sight
in a recent promotional short by Bandai.

Imagine watching a television program when a sneak preview of the upcoming, eagerly anticipated Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie appears. Instead of getting an adrenaline-pumping reel of explosive battle scenes, you would be treated to a massive spoiler in the first three seconds.

▼ “Gogeta approaches!!”

As the name suggests, Gogeta is the fusion of Goku and Vegeta, resulting in an immensely powerful entity that has only appeared in the Dragon Ball universe a handful of times.

▼ Gogeta has always been portrayed with yellow hair…

▼ …but we get to see “Gogeta Blue” this time around,
which seems to be a powered-up version of his usual self.

▼ And he is one serious badass.

Although Japanese netizens were mostly thrilled to see Gogeta Blue dishing out justice, some were disappointed that the most thrilling part of the film was revealed in the preview.

“Might as well let everyone know since they will find out anyway, right?”
“Great! They reveal the plot two weeks before its release.”
“I am really annoyed right now.”
“Gogeta Blue is so cool! But I wish they didn’t reveal him for better impact.”
“This isn’t a spoiler. It’s just telling the truth.”

Although Gogeta Blue does seem to be supremely cool, we are not sure if revealing him two weeks before the film’s release was the right thing to do. At least we now know that big bad Broly has finally met someone just as full of attitude as him.

Drunk Japanese vice principal stumbles into girls bathing area on field trip, urinates, loses job

https://ift.tt/2E81yEM Scott Wilson

A three-step plan to wreck everything.

Japan is no stranger to some teachers making horrifically bad decisions, but this may be one of the most egregious ones yet.

On November 30, the 61-year-old male vice principal of a private high school in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture drunkenly stumbled into the girls bath area at a ryokan during a field trip. He then proceeded to urinate in the designated washing space.

▼ The washing space is where you wash yourself before
you go into the hot spring. It is not where you relieve yourself.

The vice principal was accompanying 250 second-year high school students as a chaperone on a field trip to Kyoto. The night in question marked the end of their three-night four-day stay.

According to reports from the school, the vice principal had been celebrating the end of the trip with 10 other faculty members, drinking beer, plus a half bottle of wine and most of a 720-milliliter bottle of sake that he had ordered himself.

After taking a nap in his room, he awoke at 9:45 p.m., entered into the girls bathing area next to his room in a drunken state, and urinated in the washing space.

▼ The last thing any of those three girls wanted
to see the last night of their field trip.

Although bathing time for students had ended earlier at 9:00 p.m., there were still three female students in the bath’s changing area who were cleaning up and witnessed the vice principal.

The vice principal has resigned from his position and stated that: “Since I was completely drunk, I have no memory of the event. I had absolutely no intention of peeking at the girls.”

The school administration are currently considering if further disciplinary action will be taken.

The school’s principal commented, saying: “It is regrettable that the trip the students had been looking forward to ended like this. We are considering it as a problem for the entire school, and are taking it seriously. I hope that, moving forward, we can change the faculty’s way of thinking for the better, so as to avoid anything like this in the future.”

Here’s what Japanese netizens had to say about the incident:

“Since the girls bathing area was next to his room, there’s a chance he mistook it for a restroom. But then you have to wonder why there was a bedroom right next door to it, and why he was in that room in the first place….”
“Alcohol: The Destroyer of Lives.”
“I don’t think my teacher chaperones partied like that during my field trips.”
“Yikes. Even peeing in the washing area? That’s disgusting.”

At the end of the day, if you’re going to pee in the shower like most people, do it in your own private home, not a public place. And not in the wrong bathing area. And not naked inside a train station locker either.
